Demonstration of Optical Microscopy and Image Processing to Classify Respirable Coal Mine Dust Particles

چکیده
Respirable coal mine dust represents a serious health hazard for miners. Monitoring methods are needed that enable fractionation of into its primary components, and do so in real time. Near the production face, simple capability to monitor versus mineral fractions would be highly valuable tracking changes sources—and supporting timely responses terms controls or other interventions reduce exposures. In this work, premise monitoring with polarized light microscopy was explored. Using images representative particles (kaolinite, crystalline silica, limestone rock dust), model built exploit birefringence effectively separate them from coal. The showed >95% accuracy on test dataset known particles. For composite samples containing both minerals, also very good agreement results scanning electron classification, which used as reference method. Results could further concept “cell phone microscope” type semi-continuous measurements mines.

4 Health Effects of Exposure to Respirable Coal Mine Dust
This chapter describes the adverse health effects associated with exposure to respirable coal mine dust. Epidemiological studies of underground and surface coal miners in the United States and other countries are discussed. Also discussed are animal studies that add to our understanding of particle deposition and retention in the lungs and associated disease responses. This chapter emphasizes s...
متن کاملRespirable quartz hazard associated with coal mine roof bolter dust
This study examined the potential for coal mine roof bolter dust to be a source of a worker’s exposure to respirable quartz. For the models of roof bolter studied, the dust from bolt hole drilling is collected by a dry vacuum exhaust system. The collected dust-laden air passes through a cyclone size-separator (pre-cleaner) and into a collector box containing two additional cyclones and a filter...
متن کاملEquivalency of a personal dust monitor to the current United States coal mine respirable dust sampler.
The United States National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, through an informal partnership with industry, labor, and the United States Mine Safety and Health Administration, has developed and tested a new instrument known as the Personal Dust Monitor (PDM). The new dust monitor is an integral part of the cap lamp that coal miners normally carry to work and provides continuous info...
متن کاملLevel of silica in the respirable dust inhaled by dental technicians with demonstration of respirable symptoms.
Dental technicians are exposed to various dusts in working laboratories. This study was conducted to measure level of silica in the respirable dust generated from dental fixed prosthodontics manufacturing processes using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and to compare their occurrence of respiratory symptoms with that of non-dental hospital workers (control group). Respirable dus...

Human-based quality control reduces the accuracy of this process. Also, the speed of decision making in some industries is very important. For removing these limitations in human-based quality control, in this paper, the design of an expert system for automatic and intelligent quality control is investigated. In fact, using an intelligent system, the accuracy in quality control is increased. It...
